Welcome to the School Resources Site for MicroLoan Foundation Australia.
MicroLoan Foundation Australia is a non-profit organisation that uses the microfinance model to provide small loans, business training and support to the poorest women in Malawi (sub Saharan Africa) so they can start small businesses. This gives them the means to increase their self determination, put more food on the table, provide education for their children, improve their family’s health and housing conditions, and ultimately increase their standards of living.
We have put together educational material and resources to help teachers and students understand both the unique model of social microfinance (with its powerful effect on alleviating extreme poverty) and the work of MicroLoan Foundation Australia.
We have resources relevant to Primary and Secondary education. Some wonderful teachers have also created freely downloadable tasks, specifically designed to fit the Australian curriculum.
We’re offering a positive outlook on tackling world poverty.
The microloan model is a powerful way of alleviating extreme poverty, and has successfully changed the economic situations of whole communities in developing countries.
School communities here have an opportunity to make a real difference by supporting the development of microloans, through making a donation and/or spreading the word about the work of MLFA. Even small donations can make a HUGE difference with this model, as the money is recycled to help many families.
It’s a powerful, concrete and rewarding way to contribute as global citizens, and hearten and inspire young people in our communities. When we engage with a compassionate and well designed business model, real change is possible.
We believe that if we all work together, we can help to break the cycle of poverty.
